What do you need to do when you have an allergic reaction?

There is often very little time for an allergy victim to react to an attack once it happens because it is often sudden and very serious. Sensitivity to an allergen results in an allergic reaction when the victim begins to experience uncomfortable symptoms.
Shellfish is chief amongst rare foods like strawberries and some nuts, that along with several irritating phenomena like molds and weeds, or excess dust, including several house pets cause hypersensitive reactions like mild or moderate sneezing, watery eyes, itching or rashes and the likes in several people. Allergic reactions can also be as severe as chest pains, abdominal pains, vomiting, tongue swelling, or worse still, unconsciousness.
Death or anaphylactic shock can result in more severe allergic reactions if the person is not given medical attention within mere minutes of exposure. Exposure to an allergen can cause a reaction within a minute or even a day.
The chances of a person getting a severe allergic reaction increases when he is exposed frequently to an allergen. Benadryl is an antihistamine that, like any decongestant, helps to relieve symptoms of environmental and pet allergies, but some opt for further measures like asthma treatment and immunotherapy.
Established irritants and allergy inducers such as bee stings and poison ivy, or their close relatives such as peanuts and shellfish should be dutifully stayed away from since they cause more severe reactions when exposed to them. In case of an unplanned exposure to an allergen, some grown ups and even younger ones have adopted the practice of carrying an Epi-Pen to check severe reactions.
A pre-filled syringe in the Epi-Pen contains epinephrine for immediate administration. Inject into a large muscle such as the thigh once you have removed the guard on the needle. There is no need to take off any clothing since the Epi-Pen can be administered through clothes.
Constantly checking on a person who has had an allergic reaction is necessary. If the Epi-Pen does not seem to be working, even after about five minutes, you are required to seek out immediate medical attention.
