Alternative Asthma Treatment: Using Steam Inhalation as an Alternative Treatment

With our advancement in health and technology we have been able to devise a lot of alternative ways to treat asthma today. One particular alternative is steam inhalation. Steam inhalation method uses the vapor of the hot water as an expectorant.

What's good about this treatment is that the materials are readily available and the cost of the ingredients required are cheap. It can easily be done. Equipped with a tub or basin, a towel, and an essential oil such as eucalyptus oil you are already prepared for the treatment.

This alternative is commonly used for first aid and mild attack treatments. This can be essential especially when asthma starts to flare up at home.

To perform this treatment, the first thing to do is to get a basin or tub. Put hot water on it and drop essential oil on the water such as eucalyptus oil. Position your head 12 inches away from the mouth of the tub or basin. Cover your head with a towel as if you are inside a dome. Be sure that the sides of the tub are well secured by the towel. This enables you to inhale the vapor without much waste. Close your eyes and breathe in deeply through your nose for about 1 to 2 minutes. If you find that the vapor is too hot for you, just raise the towel for you to bring in fresh air. If needed, repeat as necessary. Handle the hot water carefully. Try to ask assistance if necessary.

This can be essential when you're out of medicines and is waiting for medical assistance to arrive. Its calming effect can also relax the patient preventing the attack from getting worse.
