Seasonal Allergy Relief And You

Are you miserable in the spring? Experiencing stuffy nose, sneezing, and watery eyes in the fall? If so, there are different types of seasonal allergy relief available to you.

Spring is the worst season for allergies. Because all the plants, grasses, and trees are beginning to pollinate during this time, the pollen spore counts are extremely high. This is the main root of problems in the mild months. Pollen is lightweight and can be carried by the wind for hundreds of miles. So, you can still be affected even if you don’t live where it is more highly concentrated.

We don’t usually think of fall as a major allergen season, but it can be just as bad as spring for some. Here, pollinating ragweed is the biggest trigger of symptoms. Most of us that are allergic to the spring-pollinating plants are also weak to ragweed. Mold is also something to watch for as it develops in the damp leaves around the yard. Dust mites can also fill your air when you turn your furnace on for the first time in the fall.

Symptoms of allergies can vary from mild to quite severe. Sneezing and itchy, watery eyes are a major tell. You might also experience congestion and headaches, burning throat, and difficulty breathing. Rashes and irritated skin are also quite common. If you have asthma, allergic reactions can make it worse on your body.

No cure exists for this annoying condition, but your symptoms can be alleviated and controlled through medicines. Antihistimines can cause drowsiness but conquer the histamines that the allergens cause. Decongestants relieve the congestion caused by the allergy. They can increase blood pressure and insomnia. Medicines that combine these two drugs are also on the market. All are found in form of pills, nose sprays, and eye drops. You could also get weekly allergy shots to increase your resistances.

If you wanted, you could employ the use of natural treatments as well. There is an herb known as butterbur that can be taken. It acts much like an antihistamine but without making you so tired. Saline nose sprays are simply salt water, and they help wash out foreign bodies and break up mucous. Foods cooked with pepper, onion, garlic, and ginger can also help drain the sinuses. Acupuncture focuses on the immune system and is known to be effective.

One of the best ways to treat your allergic tendencies is preventing them from building up in the first place. Keep your windows closed and use good air filters that you clean often. Don’t let mold develop in your house. Vacuum frequently, don’t allow smoking in your house, and wear a mask when you dust. Watch the pollen count and try to stay inside when it is really high. Wear a mask when doing any yard work like mowing or leaves. Immediately take a shower and put on clean clothes when you are finished.

Allergies can make you completely miserable and be very annoying and hard to live with. Almost anything inside your house or out can be a trigger, especially in certain months. Seasonal allergy relief can be found, though.
