Fight Inflammation Pain With boswellia extract

Boswellia is a genus of trees known for their fragrant resin which has many pharmacological uses particularly as an anti-inflammatory agent.  Boswellia has long been used in Ayurvedic medicine and is commonly found in India.  The Biblical incense frankincense was probably an extract from the resin of the tree, Boswellia sacra possibly known even back then for its anti-inflammatory uses.

Boswellia resin extract is concentrated from the specially processed resins and gums of the Boswellia serratta tree.  A randomized double blind placebo controlled crossover study was conducted to assess the efficacy, safety and tolerability of boswellia serrata extract in 30 patients of osteoarthritis of the knee, 15 each receiving active drug or placebo for eight weeks.  All patients receiving {boswellia extract|boswellia resin extract|boswellia|boswellia resin} reported decrease in knee pain, increased knee flexion and increased walking distance.

In conclusion, {boswellia extract|boswellia resin extract|boswellia|boswellia resin} is a safe drug and well tolerated on oral administration.  There are four main species of Boswellia which produce true frankincense and each type of resin is available in various grades.

Boswellia is available in various milligram potencies and size bottles, the most important thing to look for is its standardization.Only purchase boswellia standardized to a minimum of 65% boswellic acid.  Currently, no guidelines have been established as to the ideal dosage of boswellia serrata but one option is to take {boswellia extract|boswellia resin extract|boswellia|boswellia resin} at a dosage of 100 to 300 mg once or twice a day.Boswellia extract is available at your local health food store.
